The first day of school comes with enough nervous excitement of its own, but can you just imagine the excitement of starting school in a brand new building? Have any of you ever had the opportunity to be the first one to use a just-finished building? The fresh paint gleams, the newly varnished desks sparkle, the toilets (and we’re glad there are more than 2!) have yet to be flushed, and no one has yet dared to put a dry-erase marker to the shining whiteboards.
In a poor community where “new” is a seldom used word and an infrequent reality, our students were ecstatic as they skipped across the playing field, up the stairs, and down the halls to check out their new classrooms! Along with the new building came a few new teachers, new students, and a new grade level. There was a lot of time spent getting to know each other, learning the ropes, and settling into new routines. The first few days of school, the bells may not have rung on time, some of our littlest students may have cried after their moms left them, and we may have gone without running water or electricity for a few hours, but, all in all, everything went very smoothly!
In this season of newness in the life of Jubilee’s school, some things have not changed. We still greet our students with hugs as they come in. We still keep God at the center of all we do. And, we still keep praying that the Word of God that we teach our students will bear much fruit in their homes and in their communities.
If you would like to be part of all that is new in the heart of Jubilee’s school, we invite you to add praying for us as new part of your daily prayers! Thank you!
