“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
according to His power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20.
I believe that this is a scripture packed full of promises, and I believe that my finite human mind has a hard time truly grasping ALL that it means. Yet, I know I saw a tiny glimpse of its meaning this past week while serving in Tegucigalpa, Honduras with my family.
As we prayed about going on the trip, God led us to the idea of vision screening. As a school nurse, I clearly understand the need for a student to be able to see well in order to be successful in the classroom. I inquired about doing the screenings with our team and with Orphan Outreach, and all agreed it was a valuable project. Then God showed up and provided 500+ donated eye glasses to assist those needing correction…immeasurably more.
As we saw Jubilee’s new school building in Honduras, my husband and I stood in awe of God’s immeasurably more. On previous trips, we had seen a plot of land that was to some day hold the new school in the community of La Era. This new building and its view of the community were breathtaking and beyond anything my husband or I had asked or imagined. How brightly the Gospel and Christ’s love shine for the community to see as they lead precious children and their families to live for Jesus in Honduras!
After participating in Monday morning worship with the students, the health team set up quickly and began screening. We knew we had almost 250 kids to screen in just two and a half days. Just like in the U.S., some students found it fun, some were extremely anxious, some students had perfect vision while others needed significant correction, some students thought it was cool to need glasses, and others were less than pleased.
On the second day, a third grader was found to need vision correction and we began to evaluate which pair would work best for her. The student was offered an option of two or three pairs. She picked a dark framed pair about the color of her hair and put them on. She began beaming – smiling from ear to ear – as she read lower and lower lines on the eye chart. She could see distant objects clearly again and she loved it… immeasurably more.
In discussions later in the week, the school psychologist commented that the vision screenings were an answer to a specific prayer…immeasurably more.
Our sovereign and faithful God, showed us time and time again HIS immeasurably more as we stepped out in obedience and served HIM.
